5/4/2023 0 Comments Dreamfall chapters ettaThe glowing thing turns out to be The White Lady, who we know from TLJ and DF. We recognise this place from the intro (and narration) from The Longest Journey, and when April stumbles in and meets the Lady Alvane. She follows around a little glowing thing, and we hear some important details being shared between her parents about how the House is outside of space and time and no one should be able to get in, except for them. There is an interlude where we wake up, in a crib, and get to roam around the House of All Worlds as little baby Saga. It is interesting, if a little slow-paced. It introduces her job, the campaign, which will presumably become more important later, and all of the characters in her life now. Sometimes it is hard to remember that this game was made entirely by, like, 12 people or something crazy like that!Īnyway, the rest of Book One serves more so as an introduction to the state of Zoe’s life now, post-coma. So ensues her life into Cyberpunk Europe, which is gloriously luminous and pretty. She comes out of her coma and returns to Stark, without very much of her memory of the events of Dreamfall. This intro section is really interesting and lets us see Zoe making her way back into the “real world” to face the struggles she needs to face there. The game then picks up in the beautiful storytime, returning to Zoe and introducing her new state as someone who can interact with and control dreams in the storytime. But then, as is typical of TLJ, we get a scene that adds even more mystery! The scene immediately jumps into the House Of All Worlds, where we hear the birth of a new(?) character and some sort of portal opening. I told you before and you didn’t believe me. No doubt included in part to put to rest people’s theories that “if you don’t see the death, the character didn’t really die.” Here is Ragnar saying, l ook here, it’s real. The Book starts off swinging with all the emotional might that Ragnar so elegantly musters, as we witness the funeral of April Ryan, the first game’s protagonist. The start of Book One: Rebirth definitely draws all that intrigue and interest back out to the surface. I’ve been intrigued and anxiously awaiting answers and greater understanding of Ragnar’s world. It is my favourite videogame story and I love the lore, mysteries and world(s) in which it is set. I should probably preface this entire review by saying that I am a huge fan of The Longest Journey series (I have an entire notebook filled with notes and theories spanning TLJ and Dreamfall). Life can get a little hectic between Books so I needed to experience the story again, without the dis-junction that comes with episodic games. Though it hasn’t been announced yet, the next release for Dreamfall Chapters should be nearing a release date soon, so I decided to play through the previous books as a refresher.
